Take the Wheel: The Off-Road Monks Guide to Quiet Your Mind and Get Back in the Driver's Seat of Life

A guy's survival guide to navigating the rugged terrain of your inner world, overcoming unrelenting stress, and learning how to stop overthinking and start living.

Feeling the colossal weight of everything on your shoulders? Sometimes, the only thing we want is for everything to stop, our minds to quiet the hell down, and to mentally go off the grid. We all feel pressure--but sometimes the stress is so intense we can find ourselves at the cliff's edge. Sometimes the thoughts in our head can become so loud we feel paralyzed and shut down, unable to see the path ahead. Instead of breaking free, we end up breaking down.

From the OffRoad Monks behind the popular Zen Four-Wheeling and Soul Outing expeditions comes a guided journey to brave the wilderness within and silence the noise in your head. With soulful and practical lessons from the road, Tommy Stoffel and Bryan Bernard offer a compass in times of high stress and overwhelming pressure as well as hard-earned wisdom of what it takes to not only quiet your mind but set it free, so you never find yourself at the edge again. The authors' wilderness workshops and expeditions have helped hundreds of people--from emergency first responders and Silicon Valley executives to bankers and actors--cut down on stress to make major, lasting change in their lives.

This book teaches you to:

  • Silence the chatter in your head
  • Reduce self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviors
  • Increase emotional intelligence
  • Become less fearful and more secure
  • Make wise decisions based on your values
  • Decrease stress
  • Improve your relationships with others
  • Feel more grounded and content

Together, the OffRoad Monks will take you on a metaphorical journey into your inner wilderness to free your mind, navigate the unmarked roads ahead, venture deeper into the forest--and ultimately come out on the other side.

About the Author
In 2019 Bryan Bernard found himself on top of a mountain holding a loaded 9-mm to his head and contemplating suicide. He had "succeeded" in winning the rat race of life only to realize he had become a rat--and he was miserable as hell. With the help of his good friend Tommy Stoffel and his approach to mindfulness, Bryan broke free from the grip of a deep depression. Using their mutual love of Zen Jeeping as a vehicle, they developed a practical, approachable, and even fun framework to help people deal with the stressors in life. Together, they've helped hundreds of people break free before they break down. Bryan is a successful software entrepreneur, a leader of Zen 4-Wheeler outings, co-host and executive producer of the Offroad Monks documentary, and a life-long writer.
